Six Steps to Responsibility…and Freedom

Are you ready to put yourself in a situation where nobody else is responsible for your income or how you feel?
Are you ready to be free?
As I’ve been telling you over the past few weeks, all you have to do is take complete responsibility for every thought you think, every feeling you have, every action you take and every result.
What does that look like?
If you are angry or resentful, you realize that no one “made” you feel that way. You chose to feel that way. If your business isn’t where you want it to be, you don’t blame the economy. You look at where you are hindering the flow.
Taking responsibility isn’t always easy to do, but it is worth the effort. Here are six action steps to help you get started.
Step 1: Eliminate blame from your life.
If you’re blaming a person or situation you’re giving them the power to make you miserable. So look at yourself and:
a. Make a list of any people or situations where you are currently assigning blame.
b. Ask yourself: “Why am I choosing to feel this way? How is it serving me to blame?”
c. If you find that you’re still defending your right to blame, identify your part in the situation. Don’t write down what the other person did. Write down what you did.
For instance, if you blame your spouse for leaving you, recall that you were not supportive of his or her dream.
Then the next time the blame tape starts playing, remember your role and turn it off.
Step 2: Free yourself from your story.
What is the story you tell about your situation or the things that have happened to you?
If you’re not sure, listen to yourself the next time you’re seeking help. Or imagine asking me a question. Pay attention to the words you use to ask the question or describe the situation.
Now, ask yourself, “If I had the power to completely change or let go of my story, how would that change my life right now?” Imagine how free you would be.
Step 3: Ask yourself: “If I were totally empowered, how would that change my business? How would that change my personal life?”
If you took responsibility for everything, you would have complete power over yourself, your faculties, your resources, everything in your world.
Let yourself imagine how transforming that would be.
Step 4: Ask yourself: “Is there anything I fear by taking responsibility?”
Don’t just answer “No” or “Yes.” Really give it some thought.
If you fear something, why do you fear it? How could you be empowered by it instead?
For instance, you may fear letting go of a relationship because you’d be alone. Imagine, instead, how you could be empowered by being alone. Picture yourself in that situation.
Step 5: Understand the meaning of, “I am responsible to others but not for them.”
If you’re a coach, consultant or teacher, it’s your responsibility to deliver the best guidance you can, but you’re not responsible if your clients or students don’t follow your advice. If you produce a product that works well, but your customers don’t use it, that’s not your responsibility.
Step 6: Take responsibility for all basic survival needs, such as money, food, bills, etc.
Many people are dependent upon a spouse, parent, child or some entity to take care of them. They screw themselves up psychologically by giving that power away.
Search your life for any area where you have ceded that control and take it back.
For instance, if your spouse has always paid the bills, take them over for a year. Feel how empowering it is to take care of your own basic needs.
Taking responsibility requires vigilance and introspection. But if you did this exercise, you imagined the payoff: Your life, business and income are completely in your hands; total freedom from the opinions and control of others.
Taking responsibility for every thought, feeling, action and result is the key to your prosperity and happiness.
It is the path of liberation. And you can start on that path today.

Ladies, Are You Wearing Your Suit Of Armor?
What are you wearing to work today? Nothing says “In charge” or “professional” more than a suit. If you are a“Chick In Charge” or want to stand in your feminine power at work chances are you own 1, 2 or 3 Business Suits. Some of the suits in my closet include skirt suits with fitted and shaped jackets which are quite trendy this season. My preference however is dresses and I only wear suits if I have to. If you are a“Fashionista” the professional suit is always in style but I think it’s important to make it your own. Too many times we don’t wear what we want because we’re worried about what other people will think.
There’s one suit you should be wearing right now and it’s not in your closet!
Once upon a time, I worried about what other people thought of me. I was always concerned what “they” would think. It held me back some times, because I found myself not playing full out because I was afraid of being me. Do you find yourself making decisions based on what you want or what other people want?
If I wear this, what will “they” think?
If I change my hairstyle, what will “they” think?
If I quit my job to do what I love, what will “they” think?
If I speak my mind, what will “they” think?
If I follow my heart and do what makes me happy, what will “they think?
If I buy a bigger house, what will “they” think?
If I buy a luxury car, what will “they” think?
How many times have you thought, what will “they” think? Today is a great day to stop worrying about what other people think of you. It’s your life and you have to do what best serves you.
Why are we so afraid?
It comes down to fear of criticism, the thought of someone saying something negative causes most people to run, hide and live a mediocre life. Do you fall in that category? Have you decided to not do the thing that you wanted to do to please someone else?
Face it, people are going to talk. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but what they think about you or say about you doesn’t have to define you (only if you let it). It’s important you wear a “Suit of Armor”. It’s important you develop resilience so when you meet negativity you’re shielded because 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year you’re wearing a “Suit of Armor”. You’ve heard the saying “like water off a duck’s back “(Great analogy too!).
So the next time you make the decision to do what you want to do and someone has a problem with it. Smileand remember if they’re busy talking about you, it’s because you’re a hot topic (definitely worth talking about).However, let’s face it, they probably don’t have anything better to do (pretty sad) and they’re definitely not happy with themselves and only want to bring you down so they can feel better. Let them bask in your success and rock your “Suit of Armor” every season!!!

Pretty…Pretty…Please… The Beauty of Asking For What You Want!!
Are you living your life or the life someone else wants you to live?
Are you going after what you want or settling for what you don’t want?
Are you afraid of asking for what you want? You have to be able to ask for what you want in order to receive it.
On a scale of 1-10 how good are you at asking for what you want? Be honest, how good are you at stepping up and asking for what you want every day? Some people may ask every once in a while, but consistency will make it easier for you to get the results you’re looking for.
You see, you have to be able to communicate your needs both personally and professionally if you want them to be met!
Sometimes the only thing standing between you and what you want is an unwavering commitment to just ask for it.
How many times have you heard “Ask and it is given”? It’s not just a cute phrase, there’s meaning and proof to support the accuracy of that statement.
I remember speaking my mind as young as 5 and discovered speaking up wasn’t the “cute” thing to do. Needless to say, I got in a lot of trouble. Today, I still speak my mind with tact of course, but being outspoken has made it easy to ask for what I want.
I ask for my water to be served without ice. I ask for the sale. I ask to be picked up when I don’t feel like driving. I ask to sit in a booth instead of a table when I go to a restaurant. I ask to see what specials are running when I shop. I ask for an upgrade on the plane. I even asked the bank to reverse the charges for the new checks I ordered. I can go on and on because every day I ask for what I want; now I’d like to ask YOU, to do it too!
Fear-Doubt-Worry will stop you if you let it…
This is what stops many people from achieving their goals. They refuse to ask for help, especially when they need it the most. They start conjuring up in their head, 100 reasons why they shouldn’t ask.
I’m bothering them…
They won’t say yes…
It’s silly for me to ask…
I’m too embarrassed…
What will they think of me…?
The more you ask, the more you’ll get…
What I’d like you to do is take out a sheet of paper and write at the top “I Am Asking for What I Want Now” and then list 10 things you want right now.
I’ll give you a few examples…
1. I am asking for a raise because I’m worth it.
2. I am asking for the sale because people need what I have to offer.
3. I am asking my friend to refer me business because she/he knows a lot of people.
4. I am asking if anyone has a job opening because I’m ready to work.
5. I am asking a total stranger for their business card so I can follow up.
As with most things in life, the more you do something, the easier it becomes. If you’re feeling fearful about it, that’s a sign that you should do it. Take a few deep breaths and state your question with the purest of intentions!
Life is not supposed to be a struggle and “She works hard for the money” can play in your mind a million times, but on the contrary, making money can be easy and getting what you want can be very simple if you wear just enough courage to ask for exactly what you want.
When you make a concerted effort and continue to ask, it keeps you on track. Furthermore, the mere fact that you asked is a significant accomplishment. The important things in your life were sparked by questions. It’s the questions that count the most in life-not the answers!
Side Note: One of my favorite affirmations, I am practicing the law of giving and receiving. If you find yourself asking a lot of questions, it’s always nice to offer something in return, even if it’s just a compliment or helpful hint. You always want to create an even playing field.

Help, I Need To Make Money In My Beauty/Fashion Biz NOW!
Whether you’ve been in business a day, a month or a year, it’s inevitable that, there will come a day when you have to bring money in NOW! Perhaps, right now is that time.
It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I’ve been there before myself. It can be very stressful, frustrating and cause one to doubt oneself. What has helped me and continues to help me, is to understand that we live in an abundant world. Money is always available to YOU! Sometimes it’s the scarcity mentality that can hold you back.
You see, if you’re focusing on…
The money that you don’t have
The customers/clients that you don’t have
The fact that some of the people you know don’t have money either
Guess what?
What you focus on is always mirrored back to YOU!
If you make a conscious effort…
To set, clear & defined goals
On the dollar amount you wish to deposit in YOUR bank account
To connect with people that can afford to pay you for your products/services
You are energetically aligning yourself to make it happen. Let me give you an example. Let’s say your goal is to make $5,000.00 per month as a Fashion Stylist.
You have to know the exact amount you wish to bring in. Whenever I ask clients this question, they are often vague and this is clearly where attracting money starts. You have to know Why you want it. You have to know what you’re going to do with it. You have to know When you need it by.
It’s easy to say $10,000.00 or $100,000.00 per month but it has to be realistic to YOU otherwise you won’t believe it. When you believe it, you will be motivated to take action and overcome obstacles. One of the reasons that you may not be making the amount of money you wish to make, you’re not taking the necessary action steps to achieve your financial goals.
To make this effective, sit down with a pen & paper and write out all of your bills and come up with the sum total of your expenses. Going back to the $5,000.00 example. If $5,000.00 is your monthly income goal, you can begin to create YOUR money plan to bring in $5,000.00.
First things first, what are you going to sell? It has to be something that is viable in the marketplace. Your product/service has to be a solution to a problem. How many customers/clients do you have to serve to bring in that amount of money? Last but never least… How much are you going to charge? This is the most important part. You cannot waiver. “Yo-Yo Pricing” is really popular right now. It’s not cute or chic AND it’s not something you do if you want people to take you seriously and value your product/service.
Speak Up Please!
Ask for the sale! Ask for the sale! Ask for the sale! Are you talking to people every day about what you do? Make it a point to ask for the sale every day or a referral at the very least. This is the most important thing you can do to increase your bank balance.
Here are 3 affirmations that I love…
I close the sale every time!
I am excellent at closing the sale!
People buy my products/services NOW!
Refrain from negative thoughts about the economy or if people tell you no. Be prepared to take a NO to get to a YES!

Beauty Profits, Why are YOU working for FREE?
If you’re in the business of helping other people look and feel beautiful there’s no reason for you to be a “starving artist”. I’m sure you give your clients/customers great value. You deserve to profit from your passion!
We’ve all heard the saying “Pay your dues” but sometimes that means working for FREE, a cycle for some that never ends.
In the beginning I think it’s important to work for FREE to develop your confidence, sharpen your skills, learn your industry & network.
A problem that I see for most artists (Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists, Aestheticians, Photographers, Models, and Fashion Consultants etc.) is that they don’t know how to transition from FREE work into regularly paying gigs. Once you work for FREE don’t be afraid to offer your services at the paid rate for the next gig especially if they rave about your work. That’s the time to book the next paid gig.
Too many Artists are taken advantage of. You have to strike a balance between working for FREE & getting paid. Otherwise you run the risk of being a “Starving Artist” forever and forever (Not Cute!).
Don’t be afraid to talk about money. Ask for the sale every day! Value your work!
Treat your artistry like a business!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in business 1 day, 1 month or 1 year. Know your rates. Get comfortable talking about what you do. If you’re not sold, how do you expect anyone else to buy your product/service?
Here are some questions you should easily be able to answer:
What is your day rate?
What is your hourly rate?
What types of services do you offer?
Will you travel & how much do you charge?
What is your kit fee?
Pick a niche…
Most people don’t take Artists seriously because they appear scattered. For example if you say…I do hair, knit & bake gluten free cookies. You will confuse people and they won’t know what to hire you for, much less what your expertise is. You have to be able to articulate what you do.
Maybe you’re a Hairstylist, you knit really cool hats that you sell in your shop & you always give your clients a gift filled with cookies. You see you can still do what you love but there’s a time and place for EVERYTHING.
Can you answer this?
What is your USP (Unique Selling Point)? This is what will separate you from the other Artists. It’s competitive but there’s no competition (only 1 YOU!) when you clearly define yourself in the marketplace.
You can Invest in supplies but also Invest in yourself! You can work on the outside but it’s important you work on the inside. Business problems are nothing more than personal problems!

Gut Trusting Girls
“Oops! …I Did It Again”
Yes, I did it again! I didn’t trust my gut and got lost in someone else’s game. My natural sixth sense kicked in. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been able to make better decisions, avoid some of the “Ugly Stuff” & sometimes people that aren’t necessarily “Pretty”.
Why was this time so different?
I allowed someone to come into my space, knowing darn well I shouldn’t have. Has that ever happened to you? You know darn well you shouldn’t do something. You know you’re not supposed to do it. You feel uncomfortable inside. Yet, you ignore Y.O.U.
How many times have you wanted to kick yourself because you didn’t trust your gut? You do it any way and BAM! You live to regret it later. We must, we must become “Gut Trusting Girls”.
Women from generations in the past were “Gut Trusting Girls”. So, what happened to modern women? Our inherent sensitivity and abilities remain as they have always been. Are we just refusing to listen? Ladies, do we no longer know that we know?
