MySkin Analyzed Ungenita Prevost’s Skin

The Verdict is in…

I have good skin, my pores are small and I’m aging at a snail’s pace (not the best choice of words but I think you get the point). My birthday was last week and someone said I’m timeless. Sounds great to me!

While speaking at The Beauty Party in New York back in April of 2011, I had the pleasure of meeting the representatives from MySkin. If you haven’t heard of MySkin, and you LOVE YOUR SKIN get ready to makeover your beauty regimen. Their advanced technology analyzes your skin in minutes and gives you a 100% assessment of YOUR skin.

Beauty is Skin Deep

You see for years, we have assumed what type of skin we have. As a Trained Aesthetician you may not always get an accurate assessment under the lights when you get a facial. I’ve been told I have oily skin and normal skin. Guess what, my skin is actually combination! I still seek expert advice. I care about my skin and I take care of my skin, no ifs, ands or buts about it. Let’s face it; your skin is the largest organ in your body. Do you know what’s really going on with the dermis and the epidermis?

How many products have you bought that sit on your vanity ½ empty? MySkin’s mission is to provide you with the information and tools to help you make better decisions about your skin. Once you know your “Skin Type” you can check out what products are perfect for you AND to top it off, they’re keeping it simple and chic!

The Cost of Beauty

How much money would you have in the bank today if you didn’t waste it on “Fancy Schmancy” skin care products that didn’t work? Let’s face it; some products (I won’t name brands) fail to deliver the results YOU want.

With a background in skin care I have tried more than my share of skin care products and for the most part. I think most products work but they don’t always work on everyone. I’ll admit I’m guilty of falling for the latest and the greatest claim. With MySkin you can take control of your beauty regimen and ensure that your “skin’s success” is skin deep!

The ultimate source of unbiased advice

Analyze your skin, find what products and routines work for you, and connect with your SkinTwins™.

A REFRESHING NEW WAY TO FIND EFFECTIVE SKINCARE PRODUCTS THAT WORK FOR YOU!

As a Beauty Expert I sample new products regularly but at the end of the day, I know what works for my skin. If you’d like to get the facts about your skin so you can buy the most effective products for YOUR skin type, please visit MySkin’s site http://www.myskin.com/

Thanks MySkin for analyzing “My Skin”!!!!!!!!!

Meet One Of Ungenita’s Clients NYC Makeup Artist Jacqueline Menconi

A Day in the Life of a Makeup Artist

Life as a freelance Makeup Artist is consistently inconsistent.

My schedule is always changing and evolving. I don’t have a set weekly routine, the luxury of a steady paycheck is just a memory. I can go a week without working followed by 5 weeks without a single day off. Life as a freelance Makeup Artist is consistently inconsistent… and I love it.

Although I have been working with makeup since I was a child (thanks to Mommy), I first started my professional career as a “full time” freelancer in November of 2010.  Before then, I had worked at Sephora followed by Saks Fifth Avenue… trying to take on as many photo & video shoots and bridal clients as possible on my designated days off.

Some of you might know that this career I have chosen to pursue in my late twenties was not AT ALL what I started out doing.  I went to college to become a Producer.  After graduating, I went on to work at CNBC, a smaller production agency, and then co-founded a creative media agency called Hybrid Interactive (who you should definitely hire to create any customized marketing materials because Heather and Jenn kick some serious ass).

Anyway… Through my experiences as a Producer, I was lucky enough to meet a handful of phenomenally talented Makeup Artists (Maryann Muro, Hector Ferrer, Lisa Bell, & Shannon Lauretta to name a few).  These MUAs hold a dear place in my heart, for they are the ones who inspired me to make what felt like “the change of a lifetime” (my lifetime) from producing to makeup. After that, it was off to makeup school in the big city (thanks Laura and Jeff for letting me crash at your apartment for a shorter commute)!

Nowadays, instead of sitting behind a desk and in front of a laptop doing “producery” things, I have the distinct pleasure of playing with colors and faces (and sometimes celebrities). Whether it be on a film, TV show, or industrial video shoot set… Or a photo shoot or back stage at a fashion show… Or in a bridal suite with 12 lovely ladies drinking their traditional mimosas waiting their turn for makeup (Yes, I’d love a mimosa but I’d rather get this lipstick on your LIPS!!)… OR even working the retail circuit for one of my favorite lines, Laura Mercier… I am a happy camper.

It’s true that making definite plans in advance is a thing of the past… It’s true that I get anxious if I’m not working a few days in a row… It’s true that I’m exhausted after a few weeks of working nonstop… It’s also true that I absolutely LOVE what I do. Do I still have massive student loans? Yes. Thanks for that, college. Do I have to pay extra for my health insurance? Sure do. Do I have normal people bills to pay? Obviously.

Guess what… I manage to pay all of my bills every month. “But Jacqueline, how do you do that without a steady paycheck?” I’m glad you asked… It’s because I work my butt off networking and following up with past clients. I also try to be smart with the money I have coming in and save as much of it as I can.

All of the uncertainty and anxiety is worth it. I get to do what I love to do on a daily basis.

Are you thinking of making a career change or taking the leap to freelance-hood? DO IT. But first… Call my girl Ungenita because she knows what’s up. She is the genius that helped me find this statement:  I am a Celebrity Makeup Artist specializing in production. A simple yet strong statement that has helped me gain more business in the last few months. Thank you Ungenita!!

The End.

How To Get Your Makeup To Look Great Throughout The Day!

By: Aleya Bamdad of Long Island Beauty School in New York

You have a lot to do in the morning. Get yourself ready, get the kids ready, and get out of the house in time to catch the train. Whether you feel it or not, it can be quite stressful. Today we’re going to offer you some advice on how to get your makeup to look fresh all day, so that your morning routine won’t include worrying about which products will need touching up throughout the day.

It’s important to start your morning by washing your skin with a gentle cleanser so that you remove any dirt, makeup or residue on your skin.

After you’ve applied moisturizer to your skin, allow it to dry before you start applying any other sort of makeup. It may take a few minutes longer, but in the end, this extra time is worth it because your makeup will go on better and will stay on longer.

During the summer use a powder foundation or concealer so that your skin can breathe more freely and you won’t feel the need to constantly wipe your face.

Before applying any eye makeup, apply a primer so that your shadows last longer and look more even.

Using brown mascara instead of black will help to widen your eyes and give you a fresher look. The same applies to eye shadows that are in the brown or pink family.

Matte lipsticks tend to last longer than shimmery lipsticks and glosses so it’s good to stay with one of those. However chances are that you may still need to reapply once or twice during the day.

Don’t use too much makeup- especially during the warmer months. When you load up on foundations, concealers, powders, moisturizers and makeup, your makeup is more likely to look cakey and come apart throughout the day. Use only products that you absolutely need.

These tips won’t add a lot more time to your routine, but will save you a lot of time later on in the day. Enjoy!
